Overview and Gameplay
Fantasy Zone follows Opa-Opa through eight colorful planets after the Menons steal interplanetary currency to build enemy bases. Scenes one through seven contain eight bases that may be attacked while flying in either horizontal direction. Destroying every base summons the planet’s boss. The final scene presents rematches against the earlier bosses before the last battle, then begins a harder loop.
Controls And Mechanics
The D-pad moves Opa-Opa in eight directions, B fires the equipped primary weapon, and A uses bombs or another secondary weapon. Enemies and bases drop coins that can be spent at shop balloons on speed parts, beam weapons, stronger bombs, and other equipment. Selection balloons allow installed parts to be changed during a stage.
Opa-Opa starts with three lives. Contact with an enemy or projectile costs a life and removes purchased equipment. Primary weapon upgrades last for a limited time, while special bombs are consumed when used. Enemies, bases, and bosses award points, and completed loops add bonuses for remaining money and lives.
Version Notes
