Overview and Gameplay

Opa-Opa returns to defend the Fantasy Zone after a mysterious fleet occupies its planets and builds enemy bases across eight rounds. Each round contains several connected areas that can be explored in either direction. Destroying every frontline base opens the route to the boss, while warp zones move Opa-Opa between sections of the same planet.

The final round removes the usual base hunt and sends Opa-Opa through rematches with earlier bosses before the last battle.

Controls And Mechanics

Opa-Opa moves freely in four directions and can reverse the scrolling direction at any time. One button fires the primary weapon, while the other launches bombs or equipped secondary weapons.

Enemies and bases drop coins and notes used in shops. Purchases include speed upgrades, lasers, spread shots, stronger bombs, shields, extra ships, automatic fire, and power-meter recovery. Most advanced primary weapons have limited operating time, while single-use bombs disappear after activation.

Enemy fire and contact with terrain reduce the power meter. Losing all power costs one ship and removes the currently equipped purchases, making money collection and equipment choices important throughout the eight-round campaign.
