Overview and Gameplay

A bacteriological attack has put Earth in danger, sending the spaceship Tempest across the solar system to gather mineral components for a cure. To the Earth is a first-person NES Zapper shooter published by Nintendo, built around fast target shooting rather than ship movement.

The game is structured across four stages, with the route passing through Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Earth. Enemy ships, missiles, comets, and bosses pressure the player while an energy meter measures survival. Destroying enemies restores energy, while missed shots and enemy attacks drain it. Each stage ends with a boss, and the game tracks score, hits, shots, and accuracy.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The NES Zapper is the main play device, used to aim and fire at enemies and objects on screen.
  • Start pauses and resumes play from controller one.
  • Smart Bombs appear after strong shooting streaks at full energy and can clear the screen except for bosses.
  • Friendly energy ships can restore energy, but shooting the ship itself costs energy.
  • Barrier Shields protect against several enemy missile hits and weaken as they absorb damage.
  • The game is solo only, with two continues available after running out of energy.
