Overview and Gameplay
Dig Dug sends the player underground to clear each single-screen round of Pookas and fire-breathing Fygars. Tunnels form wherever Dig Dug moves through the soil. A round ends after every enemy is defeated or the remaining monsters escape from the screen. Later rounds increase enemy speed and use harder terrain patterns.
Controls And Mechanics
The pump fires a harpoon into an enemy, and repeated pumping inflates the target until it bursts. Dig Dug can also loosen rocks by tunneling beneath them, then move aside as they fall onto pursuing monsters. Dropping two rocks causes a vegetable bonus item to appear at the starting point.
Enemies defeated deeper underground award more points, and bursting a Fygar from the side doubles its value. A life is lost through contact with a monster, Fygar’s flame, or a falling rock. Two-player mode alternates turns between participants.
