Overview and Gameplay
Battle City places a player-controlled tank at the bottom of a fixed-screen battlefield. Each stage sends 20 enemy tanks toward a shared headquarters, and the round ends when every enemy is destroyed. Losing all reserve tanks or allowing any shell to hit the headquarters causes game over.
The game includes 35 selectable stages. Brick walls can be destroyed, rivers block tanks, forests hide vehicles and shells, ice causes sliding, and steel walls resist ordinary fire. Construction mode lets players arrange terrain tiles to create a temporary custom battlefield.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves and turns the tank, while either action button fires. Flashing enemies release power-ups such as Stars, Grenades, Helmets, Shovels, extra tanks, and Clocks. Stars improve shell speed, allow two shots at once, and eventually let shells break steel walls.
Two-player mode runs simultaneously. Both tanks defend the same headquarters and attack the same enemy force. Friendly fire briefly immobilizes an ally, and the player with more kills receives a stage bonus.
