Overview and Gameplay

Enemy armor, warships, and fortifications cover the battlefield, but no hostile aircraft appear in this vertically scrolling shooter. Developed by Toaplan, Daisenpuu Twin Hawk is the 1990 Mega Drive conversion of the 1989 arcade game. The player advances through four long areas, collecting weapon upgrades, earning points, and confronting large ground-based bosses.

Its defining mechanic is a squadron of six helper planes. They add firepower and protection, but damaged helpers dive into enemies, and the player can deliberately sacrifice the formation for a concentrated attack.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Move the fighter.
  • A or C: Fire the main gun.
  • B: Call the helper squadron, sacrifice deployed helpers, or trigger a bomb attack when pressed before formation is complete.
  • Start: Begin, pause, or resume play.
  • P items: Upgrade the primary weapon through four stages.
  • H items: Add another helper-squadron use.

This Mega Drive version supports one player and uses checkpoint recovery after a lost life.

Version Notes

The same regional program appears as Daisenpuu on Japanese hardware and Twin Hawk on European hardware.
