Overview and Gameplay
Leon Franco begins in Lisbon in 1502, seeking fortune at sea and a restored family name. Uncharted Waters is Koei’s open-ended sailing, trading, and exploration game for SNES.
The player buys and sells goods between ports, recruits crew and mates, gathers information, upgrades ships, invests in towns, and sails across a dangerous world map. Success comes from balancing profit, supplies, reputation, national relations, and survival at sea.
Controls And Mechanics
- Menus drive most port, shop, palace, shipyard, and command actions.
- At sea, the player directs the ship while managing food, water, lumber, crew, wind, currents, and damage.
- Naval battles use a tactical map with turns, wind direction, ship positions, and combat commands.
- This SNES version is single-player only, with no versus or cooperative mode.
Version Notes
This is the U.S. SNES localization titled Uncharted Waters. The Japanese Super Famicom title is Super Daikōkai Jidai. The cataloged build is an internal cartridge-header variant, not a public title change.
