Overview and Gameplay
A Nightmare on Elm Street sends a group of teenagers through houses, a junkyard, a cemetery, Freddy’s home, and Elm Street High School. Each area contains Freddy Krueger’s bones, and collecting every piece opens a boss fight and the next part of the route. The final objective is to carry the remains to the school furnace and destroy them.
Controls And Mechanics
Characters run, duck, enter buildings, jump, and punch through side-scrolling stages. A Sleep Meter falls over time and drains faster while standing still; coffee restores it. When one active character falls asleep, the whole group enters the Dream World, where enemies change and Freddy can appear. Radios return the group to the waking world.
Dream Warrior icons unlock three forms. The Shadow Warrior uses a flying kick and shuriken, the Acrobat performs a somersault and throws javelins, and the Necromancer hovers and fires magic. Select cycles through collected forms while dreaming. Damage and pits cost lives, while score is tracked separately for each participant. Up to four players can cooperate simultaneously on one screen, with three- and four-player sessions requiring a Four Score accessory.
