Overview and Gameplay
Private detective Maui Mallard arrives on a tropical island where the protective Shabuhm Shabuhm idol has vanished. This 1995 Mega Drive action platformer sends Donald through eight long stages filled with haunted rooms, ninjas, pirates, volcanic hazards, undead enemies, and boss encounters.
Maui fights at range with a bug-firing gun, then transforms into Cold Shadow for staff combat and specialized movement. Players search for ammunition, health upgrades, extra lives, continues, checkpoints, treasure, Yin-Yang energy, and gold tickets while using passwords to continue their progress.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Move, crouch, look, or aim according to the situation.
- A: Cycle bug ammunition or switch between Maui and Cold Shadow when enough Yin-Yang energy is available.
- B: Fire Maui’s gun or attack with Cold Shadow’s staff.
- C: Jump.
- Cold Shadow can hook his staff onto overhead points and brace it between close walls to climb.
- The game supports one player only.
Version Notes
This European PAL release is the original Mega Drive edition. A later Brazilian cartridge introduced gameplay, graphical, and password changes. North America did not receive a standard retail Genesis cartridge; the game later appeared there through Sega Channel distribution.
