Overview and Gameplay

Four adventurers enter monster-filled labyrinths where health drains constantly, generators produce fresh enemies, and food buys precious survival time. Gauntlet IV combines a close adaptation of Atari’s arcade Gauntlet with new modes created for the Genesis.

Arcade Mode follows numbered dungeons built around keys, treasure, exits, destructible obstacles, and relentless enemy crowds. Quest Mode expands the formula with four elemental towers, bosses, puzzles, merchants, gold, equipment, passwords, and experience-based character improvements. Battle Mode provides competitive arenas, while Record Mode grades solo performance.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Move in eight directions and push into nearby enemies for close combat.
  • Fire projectiles, hold position while aiming, and use collected magic potions.
  • Arcade and Quest modes support simultaneous cooperative play.
  • Battle Mode supports competitive multiplayer, with direct weapon attacks available during arena combat.
