Overview and Gameplay
A worldwide road race sends eight distinctive cars through branching routes, traffic, weather, and changing road surfaces. This Sega Genesis conversion of Sega’s 1993 arcade racer uses a permanent horizontal split screen, even during solo play, with the computer rival shown below.
Arcade mode spans six stages, with checkpoints adding time and the leading racer choosing the route at each fork. Original mode removes the timer and lets one player challenge rival countries, capture defeated cars, and use those vehicles in later races.
Controls And Mechanics
- Steer with the directional controls; manual transmission also uses up and down for gear changes.
- Accelerate, brake, pause, and change the current music with separate buttons.
- Eight cars differ in top speed, acceleration, handling, grip, size, and transmission.
- Two players can race simultaneously against each other in Arcade mode. Original mode is solo only.
Version Notes
The North American release was published by Data East. Unlike the Japanese Mega Drive version’s Sonic and Tails opening, the US version uses a conventional Sega logo sequence.
