Overview and Gameplay
Apollo rides Pegasus into battle to rescue Artemis from Typhon in this mythological vertical shooter. Adapted from Namco’s 1989 arcade game, the Genesis version sends the pair through seven chapters filled with airborne enemies, environmental hazards, large bosses, and story scenes. Players must collect the seven letters spelling PHELIOS before the final confrontation.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions move Apollo and Pegasus around the scrolling battlefield.
- A, B, or C fire the sword’s energy. Holding a button charges a stronger beam that is released when the button is let go.
- Golden Owls provide Options, speed increases, homing shots, ricocheting attacks, temporary beams, and extra lives.
- Novice mode contains four chapters, while Advanced includes the complete seven-chapter campaign. Completing Advanced unlocks Expert difficulty.
- This version supports one player only.
Version Notes
The North American Genesis edition uses English sampled speech and the Namco startup logo. The Japanese Mega Drive release uses Japanese voices and the Namcot logo. The home conversion also redraws stages and bosses to suit Genesis hardware rather than reproducing the arcade game exactly.
