Overview and Gameplay
Thirty national teams compete in the first FIFA game, using an angled isometric view that became a clear part of its early identity. Players pass, shoot, tackle, defend, and manage match flow across exhibition, tournament, playoff, and league modes.
The SNES version includes team setup options, player ratings, formations, substitutions, fouls, offsides, field conditions, and match settings. Action and Simulation modes change the pace and realism, with Simulation adding effects such as fatigue and passing or shooting accuracy changes.
Controls And Mechanics
- With the ball, players can pass, shoot, lob, use give-go passing, and apply aftertouch to the ball.
- Without the ball, the game supports player switching, sliding tackles, shoulder charges, and speed boosts.
- Match options include half length, field condition, goalkeeper control, clock behavior, fouls, offsides, and the power bar.
- Multiplayer supports competitive matches, and adapter play can place players on the same team.
