Overview and Gameplay
Hoth survival, Dagobah training, Cloud City, and the duel with Darth Vader are rebuilt as a demanding SNES action game. Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back assigns Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, or Chewbacca by stage instead of using free character selection.
Side-scrolling levels focus on jumping, shooting, lightsaber combat, bosses, score, health, difficulty settings, and passwords. Vehicle scenes add snowspeeder, Millennium Falcon, and X-wing sequences between the platform stages.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement: directions move, aim weapons, steer vehicles, and perform context actions such as sliding or dropping.
- Combat: Y fires blasters or swings Luke’s lightsaber, with rapid fire available by holding the button.
- Jumping: B jumps, and a second press performs a higher jump in side-view stages.
- Special actions: A changes Luke’s weapon or uses Han and Chewbacca moves; X uses detonators or Luke’s selected Force power.
- Mode: single-player only, with no alternating, versus, or co-op play.
