Overview and Gameplay
Mad Gear kidnaps Jessica, the daughter of Metro City mayor Mike Haggar. Haggar, Cody, and Guy fight through six areas to reach the gang’s headquarters and rescue her. Each stage advances after enemy groups are defeated and ends with a boss encounter.
The three fighters use different strengths: Guy moves quickly and rebounds from walls, Cody handles knives without immediately throwing them, and Haggar relies on wrestling attacks. Battle Points accumulate across sessions and unlock alternate colors, extra options, and Alpha versions of Cody and Guy.
Controls And Mechanics
Repeated attacks form combos, while close contact grabs enemies for follow-up strikes or directional throws. Jump attacks, weapons, and character-specific moves help control groups. The special attack hits nearby enemies and consumes health when it connects.
Food restores strength, point items raise the score, and 1UP items add a life. Losing all strength or allowing the timer to expire costs a life. Two-player Link Play supports simultaneous cooperative progress with two systems, two cartridges, and a Game Link Cable.
Version Notes
This enhanced handheld adaptation restores Guy, the Industrial Area, and cooperative play while adding pre-boss dialogue, automatic saving, Battle Point unlocks, and hidden Alpha fighters. The North American release replaces Poison and Roxy with Billy and Sid and uses localized signs and effects.
