Overview and Gameplay

Pilot the high-tech Airwolf helicopter through 20 rescue missions behind enemy lines. Each operation combines a surveillance map with cockpit-view combat, navigation, resource management, and external landing sequences.

Every prisoner must be rescued before Airwolf can cross the mission border. Enemy aircraft, missiles, fuel consumption, damage, and limited ammunition increase the pressure. Destroying control towers prevents nearby airfields from launching more fighters, while refuelling stations restore fuel, repair damage, and replenish missiles.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Turn, change altitude, and position Airwolf during landings.
  • A: Fire the 30 mm machine guns.
  • B: Launch heat-seeking missiles.
  • Start: Increase speed, or resume after pausing.
  • Select: Decrease speed.
  • Start and Select: Pause during play.

The instrument panel tracks fuel, damage, missiles, prisoners, and score. Careful landings are essential because towers, artillery, mountains, and hard descents can destroy the helicopter.

Version Notes

This North American Beam Software and Acclaim release is a separate NES adaptation, not the unrelated Japanese Famicom side-scrolling game with the same title.
