Overview and Gameplay

Unable to jump, Ladd Spencer crosses enemy territory with a bionic arm that grabs ceilings, pulls him upward, and swings him over gaps. His mission is to rescue Super Joe and stop the Nazz organization’s Albatros project.

The NES game reworks Capcom’s 1987 arcade concept rather than copying it directly. A helicopter map links combat areas, neutral zones, and overhead encounters. Players choose a weapon, protective item, accessory, and communicator before entering stages. Communications rooms provide clues, unlock routes, and reveal enemy messages, while bullet pickups increase maximum health.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Run, crouch, enter doors, aim the arm, and control swings.
  • A: Fire the bionic arm horizontally, vertically, or diagonally depending on direction.
  • B: Fire the selected weapon.
  • Start: Use the equipped special item.
  • Firing in a neutral zone turns its guards hostile.
  • This is a one-player game.

Version Notes

The USA release changes the Japanese game’s explicit Nazi references. Hitler becomes Master-D, the enemy organization is renamed, and swastikas are replaced, although the final villain’s appearance and graphic ending remain recognizable. The Japanese title is Hitler no Fukkatsu: Top Secret.

Release And Credits

  • Released in North America in December 1988.
  • Developed and published by Capcom.
  • Music credited to Junko Tamiya as Gondamin.
