Overview and Gameplay

Special agent Kenny Smith, code-named Viper, infiltrates fortified South American strongholds to dismantle a drug cartel. This tactical side-view shooter uses upper and lower walkways, guarded doors, limited ammunition, and carefully timed attacks. Each mission requires Viper to search rooms, rescue captives, locate the captured soldier carrying an exit bomb, and reach the stage exit before time expires.

Progress spans eight stages, with rescued agents gradually revealing a confidential message. Passwords allow play to continue from previously reached missions.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Walk, crouch, enter doors, and position Viper on different levels.
  • A: Jump, leap between walkways, drop to a lower level, and advance dialogue.
  • B: Fire the equipped handgun or machine gun.
  • Start: Begin play and pause the mission.
  • Doors can conceal hostages, ammunition, weapons, bonuses, enemies, or the required bomb carrier. They can also provide temporary cover from gunfire.

Version Notes

The North American edition localizes the Japanese Famicom game Ningen Heiki: Dead Fox with an English title, dialogue, mission briefings, packaging, and cartel-focused story presentation.
