Overview and Gameplay
Drive an armed jeep behind enemy lines to free prisoners of war, deliver them to rescue helicopters, and destroy the enemy headquarters. Jackal is Konami’s expanded NES adaptation of its 1986 arcade shooter, built around six missions with scrolling battlefields, fortified positions, and stage bosses. Rescued officers improve the jeep’s secondary weapon, while successful extractions add points and help earn additional vehicles.
Controls And Mechanics
- Move and turn the jeep in eight directions.
- Fire the machine gun toward the top of the screen.
- Launch grenades or upgraded missiles in the direction the jeep faces.
- Run over ordinary infantry, avoid mines and heavy fire, and search prison buildings for POWs.
- Two players can fight simultaneously in separate jeeps as a cooperative team.
Version Notes
The U.S. NES cartridge adds an opening beach area and wider horizontal layouts compared with the Japanese Famicom Disk System release, Final Command: Akai Yōsai. It also gives both co-op players complete control of their own jeeps.
