Overview and Gameplay

The Nyankii ninja cats defend mechanical Edoropolis from Ko’on-no-Kami and his forces in this side-scrolling action platformer based on the Japanese animated series. Choose Yattaro, Sukashii, or Pururun, then fight through 11 rounds filled with enemies, ladders, water, branching routes, environmental obstacles, and boss battles.

Four rescue-team specialists provide abilities needed to reach alternate paths and items. Rikinoshin breaks rocks, Gotton digs through soil, Nekkii handles underwater areas, and Mietoru flies while his helper gauge lasts. Health, ninpo energy, helper energy, upgrades, continues, and passwords support progression.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Movement: Use directions to walk and climb. Double-tapping directions makes the active character dash.
  • Combat: B performs the selected character’s standard weapon attack.
  • Jumping: A jumps and also controls swimming. Holding A during a running jump extends airtime briefly.
  • Ninpo: A direction-and-attack input activates the current special technique and consumes ninpo energy.
  • Character switching: Start opens the rescue-team selection screen.

Version Notes

This official release was exclusive to Japan and uses Japanese story text. Samurai Pizza Cats is the international title of the related television series, not the title of an official Western NES release.
