Overview and Gameplay
Super Mario World 9 sends a Mario-styled hero across eight islands built from the campaign of Adventure Island II. Each island contains branching routes, side-scrolling areas, hidden rooms, bonus stages, and a boss battle. Before entering an area, stored axes and dinosaur companions can be selected from the inventory.
Energy drains continuously during a stage, so fruit, meat, and milk must be collected to stay alive. Eggs can reveal weapons, a skateboard, invincibility, harmful items, warps, or one of four dinosaur helpers with different movement and attack abilities.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves the character. A jumps, flaps while riding the pteranodon, or swims in water. B runs, throws the stone axe, and activates dinosaur attacks. Start begins or pauses play. Score comes from food and stage actions, while a flower doubles points from energy fruit. Losing all energy or taking a fatal hit costs a life; the game begins with ten lives.
Version Notes
This 1996 unlicensed Famicom/NES release is a title-and-character graphics hack of Adventure Island II. It replaces Master Higgins with Mario-derived graphics while retaining the original islands, enemies, items, dinosaur system, and stage structure.
