Overview and Gameplay
Super Mario World follows Mario across an adapted Dinosaur Land overworld toward Bowser’s final stronghold. Courses contain enemies, pits, water, lava, moving platforms, castles, and goal tapes that unlock the next map position.
Power-ups include Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Cape Feathers, and Super Stars. Mario can ride Yoshi, eat enemies, spit shells, carry objects, and defeat castle bosses. The campaign uses a reduced, mostly linear selection of areas based on the original worlds.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves Mario, crouches, and navigates the map. A jumps, while directional combinations produce a Spin Jump or short hop. B runs and builds speed. Cape Mario can attack and fly after reaching full speed.
Mario and Luigi begin with 15 lives. Damage removes a power state or costs a life, while 1-Up Mushrooms and Yoshi Houses provide additional attempts. Two-player mode alternates turns between Mario and Luigi.
Version Notes
This unlicensed 8-bit adaptation was independently developed for Famicom and NES-compatible hardware. It rearranges and shortens the campaign, removes several worlds and secret routes, changes movement physics, and has no save function. The complete build includes the later courses and Bowser ending.
