Overview and Gameplay

Buster, Babs, Plucky, and other Tiny Toon characters become pieces in a small cartoon studio. Tiny Toon Adventures: Cartoon Workshop is a NES creation program where the player builds short animated scenes instead of clearing action stages.

The loop is to choose a background, place up to two actors or props, assign animations, set movement, add captions, sounds, music, and effects, then play back the finished cartoon. There are no lives, score, time limit, or failure state. Its appeal is in experimenting with scenes and timing rather than competition, and it remained a niche late NES licensed release.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The directional pad moves through menus, places objects, and sets actor movement direction and speed.
  • The A Button confirms menu choices, places actors or text, and accepts movement settings.
  • The B Button cancels choices or backs out of a menu step.
  • Start plays the cartoon back from the beginning while editing.
  • Only one player is supported; there is no alternating, versus, or co-op mode.
