Overview and Gameplay

Pilot the F-14XX Skycat from the carrier Sega Enterprise and strike two enemy microwave relay complexes before returning home. This Genesis conversion of Sega’s 1987 arcade shooter sends the aircraft along a fixed pseudo-3D route filled with fighters, missiles, ground targets, rock columns, and other hazards.

The campaign contains 22 combat stages followed by a final carrier landing. Enemy formations become more aggressive as the route progresses, while resupply aircraft replenish the limited stock of guided missiles.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Flight: Move the fighter in eight directions, accelerate, decelerate, and use higher speed to escape attacks from behind.
  • Weapons: The Vulcan cannon fires automatically with the default layout. Guided missiles launch after the targeting system locks onto enemy aircraft.
  • Evasion: Move fully to one side and then press the opposite direction to perform a 360-degree roll.
  • Options: Vertical movement can be reversed, and alternate trigger layouts can place the Vulcan cannon under manual control.

Version Notes

The USA and European releases share the same western cartridge program. Compared with the arcade original, this version preserves the route, throttle control, lock-on missiles, rolls, and music themes while using simplified scenery and sprite scaling.
