Overview and Gameplay
A fast 2-on-2 basketball matchup turns into a physical contest where scoring points is only part of the challenge. Players compete in short arcade-style games where pushing, stealing, and direct contact are fully part of normal play. The objective is simple: finish the match with more points than the opposing team while managing aggressive opponents on a full court presented from a side-view perspective.
Teams feature different player traits that affect speed, shooting, and defense, creating varied matchups. The pace stays constant through timed quarters, and tied games lead to sudden death where the first basket decides the winner.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement focuses on full directional control across the court
- Passing, shooting, and physical interference are core actions during play
- No foul system, so contact plays a constant role in defense and offense
- Two-player matches support both cooperative team play and head-to-head competition
Version Notes
The Genesis release is based on the 1989 arcade original. In Europe, the game also appeared under the title Arch Rivals: Ein BasketKrawall, while maintaining the same core structure and ruleset.
