Overview and Gameplay
Hiromi Tengenji must pass a futuristic Earth University graduation exam by battling through six days of increasingly dangerous combat. This 1990 Sega Genesis conversion of Namco’s 1989 arcade shooter places the action behind Hiromi as she races across the ground on the Sign Duck airbike and later takes flight in an armed aircraft.
Each regular day combines airbike sections, aircraft combat, mini-bosses, a larger boss, and a score-focused bonus sequence. Weapon pickups provide laser, spread, Cross Laser, and missile upgrades, while timed clears and destroyed targets add to the score.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Steer and adjust speed on the airbike, or move freely while flying.
- A: Fire the primary weapon.
- B: Launch missiles.
- C: Activate stored temporary invincibility after collecting five green items.
- Vehicles use a three-point energy meter, and the options menu includes difficulty, starting lives, rapid fire, and alternate button layouts.
- This Genesis version supports one player only.
Version Notes
The Genesis conversion has fewer enemies, slower pacing, simplified visual effects, and rougher scaling than the arcade original. It also replaces the arcade game’s one-hit destruction with an energy meter and adds stored invincibility.
