Overview and Gameplay

Six radio-controlled vehicles battle for position across compact isometric circuits filled with oil slicks, barriers, speed strips, weapons, and performance upgrades. Finish in the top three to qualify for the next race while collecting parts that improve acceleration, top speed, and grip.

This 16-bit adaptation of Rare’s NES racer expands the field to six vehicles and adds enhanced presentation, player names, and race records. Collecting the letters in CHAMPION upgrades the player’s vehicle, while missiles and bombs can temporarily stop rivals.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Steer relative to the vehicle’s current heading.
  • A: Accelerate.
  • B or C: Use the available weapon, or sound the horn when unarmed.
  • Start: Begin, pause, or resume play.

Upgrades persist through the run, so gathering useful parts is important as opponents and hazards become tougher. The game supports one player against five computer-controlled racers.

Version Notes

The Genesis version is an enhanced adaptation of R.C. Pro-Am for the NES. It features six racers instead of four, uses CHAMPION letters in place of the original Nintendo-branded sequence, and advertises 24 tracks.
