Overview and Gameplay
Roller-skating fighter Donald J. Boy battles the Bad Boyz through Cigaretch City while trying to rescue Maria. This Genesis conversion of Kaneko’s 1989 arcade game reshapes the action into six solo rounds with street fights, moving hazards, bosses, a construction stage and a late boss rush.
Defeated enemies and breakable objects drop money. Between rounds, cash can buy healing, faster skates, stronger attacks, improved defense or a reserve life. Health carries between stages, making shop choices important.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Skate around the scrolling playfield.
- A: Punch quickly at close range.
- B: Deliver a slower, stronger kick.
- C: Jump; kicking in the air performs a powerful jump kick.
- Start: Pause the game.
DJ Boy is strictly a one-player game. Limited lives, heavy boss damage and environmental hazards make even short runs demanding.
Version Notes
The USA version changes backgrounds, character colors, hazards and stage pacing from the Japanese Mega Drive release. Its third round becomes an accelerating auto-scroller, maximum health increases automatically, and the fifth round adds hazards before a tougher boss gauntlet.
