Overview and Gameplay
Built around the 1994 professional baseball season, R.B.I. Baseball ’94 lets players bat, pitch, field, run bases, manage lineups, and guide a club through single games or longer schedules. Its MLB Players Association license provides more than 800 real players from 28 clubs, complete with 1993 statistics and portraits, while teams are identified mainly by city.
Options include nine-inning games, divisional and all-team schedules, 80-game and 162-game seasons, Home Run Derby, Game Breakers scenarios, defensive practice, Pickles, custom rosters, and stadium viewing. Season progress is continued with passwords.
Controls And Mechanics
- Move batters and pitchers with the directional controls, then use context-sensitive buttons to swing, pitch, throw, bunt, jump, dive, lead off, steal, and advance or return runners.
- Pitchers have stamina, and demanding pitches consume more energy. Available deliveries include fastballs, slower pitches, curves, pitchouts, and risky spitballs that can lead to ejection.
- Fielding can be assisted, manual, or automatic. Difficulty settings affect defensive help and CPU behavior.
- Two players can compete simultaneously in head-to-head games and selected side modes. Long season modes are single-player.
Version Notes
The USA and Europe cartridge release uses the same game title and game program, with Genesis or Mega Drive branding depending on territory.
