Overview and Gameplay
An ancient warrior enters a hostile fantasy realm to free imprisoned fairy princesses before each level’s timer expires. Stormlord is a side-scrolling action puzzle platformer adapted from the 1989 computer game, with the Genesis conversion based on the Amiga version.
Across ten levels, progress depends on finding the right route, rescuing every required fairy, and using objects such as keys, jumping boots, honey, and umbrellas. Stormlord can carry only one item at a time, so poor choices may force a restart. Enemies respawn during backtracking, and completed stages lead to a fairy-catching bonus round that can award extra lives.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Walk, steer jumps, and crouch.
- A: Jump.
- B: Fire magical stars, or hold to charge a stronger sword projectile.
- C: Pick up or exchange magical treasure items.
- Start: Begin or pause the game.
This is a one-player game with a local score table and up to two continues.
Version Notes
The Genesis conversion gives the rescued fairies clothing, a change requested for the American market. The North American manual also uses localized names including the Evil Rotting Crone and the transport creature Thortos.
