Overview and Gameplay

Kid Ying and Dr. Yang chase the mystery of Princess Yuki through a comic version of Japan, shifting between town exploration and side-scrolling action stages. This Western SNES release localizes Konami’s Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyuushutsu Emaki.

Players gather clues, fight roaming enemies, spend money in shops, upgrade weapons, and clear boss stages. Money matters as both currency and throwing-weapon fuel, while minigames and passwords give the quest a playful adventure structure.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Move through towns and action stages with the directional pad, attacking enemies at close range or with thrown weapons.
  • Jumping, climbing, crawling, shop choices, item screens, and Jutsu attacks all support the changing stage layouts.
  • Lucky cats improve the main weapon, and scroll-based special techniques add stronger attacks.
  • Two players can play simultaneously as a co-op team, including a piggyback move where one character rides and attacks while the other moves.

Version Notes

This is the European PAL SNES release. The public Western title is The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, while the Japanese original is Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyuushutsu Emaki. The localized heroes are Kid Ying and Dr. Yang.
