Overview and Gameplay
Dr. Mario & Puzzle League contains two complete puzzle games. In Dr. Mario, falling two-color capsules must form lines of four matching pieces with viruses to clear each bottle. Classic mode advances through increasingly crowded stages, while Flash focuses on removing three marked viruses before the opponent. Puzzle League uses a two-space cursor to swap adjacent blocks and form groups of three or more. Its modes include Marathon, Timed, Line, Garbage, Puzzle, and computer-controlled matches.
Controls And Mechanics
In Dr. Mario, the directional pad moves capsules, A and B rotate them in opposite directions, and L or R toggles the landing guide. Filling the bottle to the top ends the round. In Puzzle League, the directional pad moves the cursor, A or B swaps blocks, and L or R raises the stack. Chains and simultaneous clears increase scores and send garbage during versus matches. Two cartridges and a Game Link Cable support simultaneous competitive play in both games.
