Overview and Gameplay
Super Puzzle Fighter II is a competitive falling-gem puzzle game featuring characters from Street Fighter and Darkstalkers. Colored gem pairs descend into each field, and the objective is to fill an opponent’s field with Counter Gems before your stack reaches the top.
Arcade Mode presents CPU tournaments with Easy, Normal, and Hard routes. Street Puzzle offers challenges that unlock bonus characters, cosmetics, music, sounds, and extras in the Goodies menu. Training Demo explains the rules, while Master Arcade adds a tougher unlockable challenge.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves falling pairs, speeds their descent, or quick-drops them. A rotates clockwise, B rotates counterclockwise, Start pauses, and Select performs a taunt or opens the pause menu.
Crash Gems destroy connected gems of the same color. Rectangular groups of four or more matching gems form Power Gems, which grow as matching gems are added and send stronger attacks when cleared. Rainbow Gems remove every gem matching the color they touch. Counter Gems count down as pairs are placed, then become normal gems. Large clears and chains send heavier attacks and raise the score.
Two players can compete simultaneously on one system with shared controls or on two systems using a Game Link Cable and two cartridges. Match length and handicaps are adjustable.
Version Notes
The North American release uses the title Super Puzzle Fighter II, omitting Turbo from the earlier North American title.
