Overview and Gameplay
The Prince releases the Sands of Time after being deceived by the Vizier, transforming the palace and its inhabitants. He must cross five interconnected palace sections, solve room mechanisms, defeat possessed enemies, and reach the Vizier. Scrolls unlock new movement and combat abilities, including double jumps, wall runs, rebound jumps, charged attacks, and projectile absorption.
Farah becomes controllable in selected puzzle rooms, where her bow activates distant gongs and destroys hazards. Medal pieces, hidden routes, and previously blocked passages encourage returning to earlier areas after learning new techniques.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves, climbs, and crouches. A jumps, rolls, and confirms choices, while B attacks and drains Sands from fallen enemies. L activates the selected time power, R guards or absorbs projectiles, Start opens the status screens, and Select switches between the Prince and Farah at designated points.
Rewind reverses recent mistakes, while slow and freeze powers affect enemies and traps. The Dagger’s Sands meter is replenished by draining enemies or touching special flares. Life Potions restore health, Sands Potions refill the Dagger, and freeing possessed soldiers raises the Prince’s maximum health, attack, and defence.
Version Notes
This North American edition includes English, French, and Spanish text. The Game Boy Advance adaptation reworks the story as a side-scrolling palace adventure with character growth, collectible abilities, and dedicated Farah sections.
