Overview and Gameplay
Dr. Mario & Puzzle League presents two puzzle games from a single cartridge menu. In Dr. Mario, colored vitamin capsules fall into a bottle filled with red, blue, and yellow viruses. Matching four pieces of one color clears them, and each stage ends when every virus is removed.
Puzzle League uses a cursor to swap adjacent blocks. Horizontal or vertical groups of three disappear, while chains and larger matches increase the score. Modes include Marathon, Timed, Line, Garbage, Puzzle, and computer-controlled versus battles.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves capsules or the Puzzle League cursor. A and B rotate capsules in opposite directions in Dr. Mario and swap blocks in Puzzle League. L and R toggle the capsule landing guide or raise the Puzzle League stack. Start pauses play, while Select provides hints in Puzzle mode.
Dr. Mario ends when capsules block the bottle entrance. Puzzle League ends when the rising stack reaches the top. Competitive link-cable matches support two players, with combos and chains sending garbage to the opposing field.
Version Notes
The European release includes English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian text. Its Puzzle League component is the Western version of Panel de Pon, reflected by the Japanese title Dr. Mario & Panel de Pon.
