Overview and Gameplay
Chris Evert & Ivan Lendl in Top Players’ Tennis brings licensed tennis stars to the NES version of Home Data’s court game. Players can step in as Evert or Lendl, or build a custom boy or girl player for singles competition.
The main singles path begins with the Asmik Open and leads toward Grand Slam events including the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open. Custom players earn bonus points after victories and can improve stats such as strength, speed, agility, stamina, skill, ball spin, focus, and miracle ability.
Controls And Mechanics
- The directional pad moves the player and can add spin to shots.
- Serves use a toss followed by either a fast or slow serve.
- Normal play includes ground strokes, volleys, smashes, lobs, dives, and jump actions.
- Miracle Shots spend miracle points for special returns, lobs, spirals, split-ball effects, and speed shots.
- Modes include solo singles, versus singles, and doubles play with computer-controlled partners or opponents.
Version Notes
The USA release uses Chris Evert and Ivan Lendl branding. The same NES/Famicom game line appeared as World Super Tennis in Japan and Four Players’ Tennis in Europe.
