Overview and Gameplay

The Epsilon Empire threatens Earth and other inhabited worlds, sending a Cyber Protector pilot across planets, space routes, and an enemy battle satellite. Cosmic Epsilon is a Japanese Famicom shooter with behind-the-player, pseudo-3D stages and smooth scaling-style terrain.

Across eight stages, the Cyber Protector changes between a flying humanoid form and a Cannon Ship used in space and underwater areas. Enemies attack from the distance, anticipate movement, and lead into demanding boss battles. Limited lives and the absence of a normal continue system make progress especially difficult.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Movement: Use the directional pad to move across the screen.
  • Laser: Tap B for the unlimited standard beam.
  • Wave cannon: Hold B briefly, then release it to fire a stronger charged shot.
  • Homing missiles: Press A to spend limited missile ammunition.
  • Power-ups: Enemy drops can restore missiles, grant protection, or award an extra life.
  • Display mode: Select switches between standard graphics and optional Famicom 3D System output.

Version Notes

This is the original Japan-only Famicom release, titled コズミックイプシロン. The optional stereoscopic mode was designed for Nintendo’s Japanese Famicom 3D System.
