Overview and Gameplay
The Elven town of Eolis is collapsing after meteorites strike the World Tree, monsters spread through its settlements, and the water supply disappears. The Hero travels through towns, caves, fortresses, and the tree’s upper branches to reach the Evil Place, defeat the Evil One, and restore the land.
Progress depends on keys, rings, boss victories, equipment, and information from residents. Gurus grant new ranks and provide Mantras that resume the adventure from the last visited shrine.
Controls And Mechanics
The Hero fights in real time with swords and selectable magic while climbing ladders, entering doors, and crossing connected side-scrolling areas. Gold buys weapons, armor, shields, spells, food, keys, and consumable tools. Bread restores health, and enemy defeats provide experience used to qualify for higher ranks.
Wing Boots allow temporary flight, Mattocks break certain walls, Hour Glasses stop enemies, and Elixirs restore health and magic after fatal damage. Health reaching zero returns the Hero through the continuation system unless an Elixir activates first.
Version Notes
This PRG1 Revision A release changes the dialogue typeface used in the earlier North American version. The localized edition also replaces religious imagery from the Japanese release.
