Overview and Gameplay
Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! sends Godzilla and Mothra across eight Ring Fields from Earth to Planet X. Each field uses a hex map where the player routes either monster through side-scrolling battle stages, confronts enemy kaiju, and advances toward the enemy base. Godzilla moves up to two hexes per turn, while Mothra can move up to four. Adjacent monsters can trigger timed Hyper-Fight battles.
Controls And Mechanics
Godzilla walks, jumps, crouches, punches, kicks, sweeps with his tail, and spends regenerating Power on radiation breath. Mothra flies freely, fires eye beams, and uses poisonous powder. Life Capsules restore health, while Power Capsules appear in Sub-space stages. Fighting enemies and destroying targets raises each monster’s level, expanding and refilling Life and Power up to level 16.
If one playable monster falls, the survivor can still reach the base. The defeated monster returns in the next Ring Field at a reduced level. Passwords record progress between fields.
Version Notes
The North American release adds the subtitle Monster of Monsters!, faster map movement, reduced enemy recovery after drawn fights, and a point-scoring system absent from the Japanese cartridge.
