Overview and Gameplay
Dr. Bokkomann has unleashed microscopic Bugroid weapons, and child pilots Anny and Myu are shrunk to insect size to fight back. Insector X is a colorful horizontal shooter adapted from Taito and Hot-B’s 1989 arcade game. The Famicom version has five rounds, each ending with a boss, followed by a harder loop after the ending.
One hit costs a life and usually returns the player to a checkpoint. Beam upgrades, red and blue special weapons, speed items, extra lives, and an X item that preserves power for one death shape each run.
Controls And Mechanics
- Use the directional pad to move in eight directions.
- B fires the main beam, while A uses the active special weapon.
- Start pauses or confirms choices, and Select changes menu options.
- Anny is the standard pilot. Myu starts with a stronger beam and can hold the fire button for rapid shots.
- Two players compete in alternating turns, not simultaneous co-op.
Version Notes
This Japanese Famicom edition replaces the arcade hero with Anny and Myu, adjusts difficulty and enemy fire, changes the final boss, and keeps a brighter style than the later Mega Drive version.
