Overview and Gameplay

Captain Max Maverick remains on the planet Pan after an alien force consumes its cities, machines, and living creatures. Isolated Warrior is a single-player, forced-scrolling isometric shooter built for the NES, combining constant gunfire with jumping, bombing, platform hazards, and vehicle stages.

Six main stages alternate between combat on foot, motorcycle runs, and hovercraft action. Each area ends with a boss, while passwords record progress. Completing the first six stages in one continuous game without using a continue or password opens a seventh stage and the full final battle.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Use the directional pad to move across the isometric playfield.
  • Press B to fire the selected laser. Select switches between a spreading beam and a focused beam, each upgraded separately through matching pickups.
  • Tap A to jump, hold it for a longer somersault, and press it again in midair to drop a bomb.
  • Bombs gain wider attack patterns as they level up and can reveal hidden warp holes and bonus areas.
  • On the motorcycle, Down plus A performs a wheelie jump over obstacles.

The USA release uses the English title and localized story text. In Japan, the game was released as Max Warrior: Wakusei Kaigenrei.
