Overview and Gameplay
The Joker has returned, sending Batman through a seven-stage campaign of platforming, projectile combat, industrial hazards, and large boss encounters. This 1992 Genesis release is a rebuilt 16-bit version of the NES game Batman: Return of the Joker, with redrawn presentation, revised balance, and more aggressive enemies.
Batman advances through thirteen regular sub-stages and five boss battles. Most areas mix running, jumping, traps, and ranged attacks, while two stages switch to horizontal jetpack shooting. Passwords allow progress to continue from later stages.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Move and crouch.
- A: Fire the equipped weapon; hold to charge a stronger attack.
- B: Jump.
- C: Kick; press Down and C for a sliding attack.
- Start: Pause and view information.
Breakable crates provide four letter-coded weapons, including basic, explosive, spread, and double-shot types. Collecting eight energy capsules fills a temporary invincibility meter. The game is strictly single-player.
Version Notes
The Genesis edition adds a dedicated kick and tougher enemy behavior while retaining much of the NES stage and boss structure. It was released only in North America.
