Overview and Gameplay
Five members of a struggling rock band become crystal-powered troll warriors and travel to another world to stop Zok and his Saurian army. Stone Protectors is a side-scrolling beat ’em up with five playable characters, ten stages, enemy waves, bosses, collectible weapons and power-ups.
Each hero has a different weapon, attack range and set of special techniques. Progress follows a straightforward arcade structure: clear each area, defeat its boss and continue the search for the stolen crystal fragments.
Controls And Mechanics
- Move freely across the playfield while using punches, kicks, jumps and personal weapons.
- Charged and character-specific attacks provide stronger offensive options, with some powerful techniques consuming health.
- Temporary weapons and useful items can be collected during stages.
- Two players can fight simultaneously as a cooperative team.
Version Notes
This is the cancelled USA Sega Genesis prototype rather than the commercially released Super Nintendo version. The build includes a level-select option and several unfinished elements, including reduced background animation, missing victory poses in places and a rough ending sequence.
