Overview and Gameplay
A federation starfighter pushes through an escalating war against the ORN Empire, shifting between free-roaming orbital assaults and tightly controlled side-scrolling combat zones. Each stage is built around clearing enemy strongholds, breaking defensive cores, and advancing deeper into fortified space territories.
The structure alternates between overhead navigation and traditional horizontal shooting. In top-down segments, the ship moves freely across large battlefields to destroy targets and open the path forward. These segments transition into side-view stages where fast-paced dodging and boss encounters define the action. The dual format shapes the entire progression, giving each level two distinct combat styles.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement in multiple directions across both overhead and side-scrolling stages
- Primary shooting with selectable or changing weapon types
- Speed adjustment system for navigating tight enemy patterns
- Stage progression based on destroying key targets and bosses
- Alternating two-player mode where players take turns
The gameplay loop emphasizes route clearing in exploration-like sections followed by reflex-driven shooter segments. Weapon pickups and speed control play a key role in surviving later stages.
Version Notes
The Mega Drive version adapts the original X68000 release, preserving the hybrid stage design while adjusting presentation for console hardware. The Western release carries the same core structure as the Japanese edition.
