Overview and Gameplay

Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Cell, Buu, and other late Dragon Ball Z fighters battle through fast one-on-one matches on Super Famicom. Tose’s 1996 fighting game covers material from the Freeza saga through the Buu saga and is built more like a traditional 2D fighter than the earlier Super Butōden games.

Players choose characters for story battles, versus matches, tournament play, or practice, then use close attacks, ki blasts, dashes, throws, command specials, and stage-shifting strikes to defeat opponents.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Each fighter has character-specific special moves using directional commands and attack buttons.
  • Ki attacks, punches, kicks, throws, dashes, and alternate-background attacks shape the match flow.
  • Desperation attacks become available when a fighter’s health is low.
  • Two-player support is direct versus fighting, not co-op.

Version Notes

This is an English-translated version of the Japanese Super Famicom release. The Japanese version includes Story Mode, which was removed from the European PAL release.
