Overview and Gameplay
The Gogetsu Clan chooses its leader through a fighting tournament held every five years. In Power Instinct, eight strange clan contenders battle through one-on-one matches, with the final challenge against Oume.
Story Mode follows a standard ladder of computer opponents, while VS Mode lets two players fight each other. The SNES version also includes Life Attack and two Practice modes for learning matchups and special moves.
Controls And Mechanics
- Match rules: drain the opponent’s life meter, win two rounds, or have more life when the timer ends.
- Movement: fighters can jump, crouch, guard, double jump, dash forward, and back dash.
- Attacks: each character uses weak and strong punches and kicks, throws, and character-specific special moves.
- Status: repeated hits can dizzy a fighter, requiring quick recovery inputs.
- Multiplayer: two-player play is simultaneous competitive versus, not co-op.
