Overview and Gameplay

Conrad B. Hart wakes in a jungle with his memory erased, a holocube as his clue, and a larger alien conspiracy behind his missing identity. Flashback: The Quest for Identity is a cinematic sci-fi platform adventure built on careful movement, puzzle solving, and gun combat.

Players guide Conrad through six story-linked levels, using elevators, doors, conversations, items, save stations, passwords, and environmental hazards to survive. Its screen-by-screen structure favors deliberate jumps, ledge grabs, rolls, crouching, and timing over fast arcade platforming.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Movement includes walking, running, rolling, crouching, jumping, grabbing ledges, and climbing.
  • The inventory system supports items such as the holocube, gun, force field, ID card, teleport gear, and other mission tools.
  • Conrad uses a shield with limited charges, and energy generators can restore protection or recharge key equipment.
  • This is a single-player adventure with no versus or co-op mode.

This is the USA SNES cartridge release. The game is also commonly known simply as Flashback and is not the enhanced CD-ROM version.
