Overview and Gameplay

Take flight over Krynn as a metallic dragon battling the dragonarmies during the War of the Lance. This NES adaptation turns DragonStrike into a mission-based overhead shooter with 14 stages, objective briefings, boss encounters, and password continuation.

Choose a bronze, silver, or gold dragon, each with different speed, armor, health, and breath weapons. Missions involve destroying targets, navigating hazards, fighting airborne and ground enemies, and escaping through the top of the area after completing the objective.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Left and right turn the continuously moving dragon.
  • Up climbs to high altitude, while down dives to low altitude.
  • A fires the primary breath weapon, and B uses the secondary breath weapon.
  • Altitude determines which enemies can be attacked and which obstacles are dangerous.
  • Damage reduces both health and breath-weapon strength.
  • Power-ups can improve speed, armor, health, protection, or weapon power.
  • Two-player mode is alternating, with players taking turns rather than flying together.

Version Notes

The NES edition is a substantial redesign of the earlier computer game, replacing its first-person flight simulation with free-roaming overhead action and simplified console controls.
