Overview and Gameplay
Pac-Mania presents scrolling isometric mazes where Pac-Man must eat every dot while avoiding ghosts. The NES campaign contains 19 rounds across Block Town, Pac-Man’s Park, Sandbox Land, and Jungly Steps. The opening selector allows a start in one of the first three worlds, while Jungly Steps is reached through normal progression. Later rounds increase the speed and number of ghosts and introduce enemies that can jump.
Controls And Mechanics
Pac-Man moves through the maze and can jump over grounded ghosts, then change direction while airborne. Landing on an enemy or touching an active ghost costs a life. Power pills make ghosts vulnerable and award increasing points for consecutive captures. Green pills temporarily increase movement speed, while red pills double scoring. Fruit and other bonus objects appear near the center of the maze.
Two continues allow progress to resume after losing all lives, but using one resets the score. Two-player mode alternates turns between participants.
Version Notes
This NES conversion was released by Tengen without Nintendo’s approval. Namco America licensed the game and Pac-Man property to Tengen, and Westwood Associates developed the conversion.
