Overview and Gameplay

Bowser has invaded an All Night Nippon-themed Mushroom Kingdom, replacing familiar characters with caricatures of Japanese radio personalities. This official Nintendo remix combines altered stages from Super Mario Bros. with selected courses inspired by the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2.

Mario or Luigi crosses eight worlds of timed platforming stages, collecting coins and power-ups while avoiding enemies, entering pipes, reaching flagpoles, and navigating castle mazes. Eight completed quests unlock the additional Worlds A-D. Luigi jumps higher than Mario but has less traction and skids farther.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Move with the directional pad and press down to crouch or enter suitable pipes.
  • Jump or swim with A; holding A produces a higher jump.
  • Hold B while moving to run, or press B to throw fireballs in Fire form.
  • Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Starmen, and 1-Up Mushrooms provide familiar abilities and bonuses.
  • This is a solo game with separate Mario and Luigi selections.

Version Notes

Most outdoor areas use nighttime colors, while enemies, castle captives, environmental graphics, item placements, and stage layouts reflect the All Night Nippon radio collaboration. It was released only in Japan for the Family Computer Disk System.
